At Hafod, we place a strong emphasis on the health and well- being of the all-round child. As a result, physical education and sport play a significant part in the school day of all pupils from Nursery to the end of Year 6. From age two to seven a range of indoor and outdoor experiences are provided to aid the development of the children’s body control and co-ordination, fine motor skills, spatial awareness and balance. This is built upon in the Juniors, whereby pupils are taught elements of dance, athletics, swimming, games, gymnastics and outdoor pursuits. Throughout both stages the children’s knowledge and understanding of health-related exercise and physical well-being is encouraged at all times.
The children at Hafod experience a wide range of curriculum and extra curricular opportunities provided by teachers. In addition, children travel to Swansea pool for regular swimming sessions. Also a comprehensive range of extra curricular clubs are run throughout the year.
Rugby, football, dance and netball clubs are run throughout the autumn and spring term. In the summer term kwikcricket, rounders and athletic clubs are introduced. The school aims to provide all children with the opportunity to develop their sporting abilities through individual, partner, group and team activities. Opportunities to represent the school are offered to children from Years Three to Six.
The park adjacent to the school has playing fields marked for rugby, cricket and rounders and one of the yards is marked for netball. The hall/community gym is used for gymnastics.
